Welcome!
My name is Caroline Korte and I am a recent graduate of Clemson University with a B.S. in Biosystems Engineering with an emphasis in ecological design. I have always been interested in environmental science and have been able to integrate this in my major with engineering applications to find sustainable solutions to world problems. I also have a Spanish minor so that I can use my degree in a wide range of locations to help many different people. I hope to have a career that enables me to work hands on to preserve our environment.

Projects and Research
REFLECTION
This was the final project for my GIS class where I had to incorporate all of the skills I learned in the class into one map. This showed how much GIS could do and demonstrated how valuable this skill is. I chose this particular project due to its relevance to problems I may have to solve in my future career.
GIS Project
Hydrological Issues with Riggs Field
REFLECTION
This project was a significant hydrological project because my emphasis is ecology and I hope to work with water in hydrology in my future career. It also was a benefit that the project dealt with a location that was on the university campus to learn to work with surrounding issues that affect me and my peers.
REFLECTION
This project was for my senior design capstone. It was a very difficult project that me and my group worked on all semester. It was quite advanced for our skill set and a different project may have been easier. However, I feel like it challenged me and made me think about every single aspect that goes into an industry engineering project.

Toxoplasma gondii Research
CEDC Water from Air Project
REFLECTION
I assisted in research for a Clemson University professor with a graduate student. This gave me experience in research techniques and subjects. I learned that I like being in the lab and being hands on with projects. It was fulfilling to get results from research work and I was able to present my findings at the AGU conference.
REFLECTION
This is a new and ongoing project I worked on in my Creative Inquiry class Clemson Engineers for Developing Countries. I was the project manager for the group and really enjoyed the project. When working with other countries, there are many other things that must be taken into consideration for the design besides the basic engineering. I also learned a lot about leading a group for an important project and hoped I could have seen the project through to the end.

CLEMSON UNIVERSITY
I assisted in research on nano-particles and protozoa for a Clemson University professor. I had the opportunity to learn from professors and graduate students on research practices and perform data collection and analysis in lab and field settings. I also presented my own findings at the AGU Fall Meeting in 2016 in San Francisco. I had to present and organize my data in a professional way and was able to meet and listen to talks of research professionals and graduate students.

Co-op
CHARLESTON WATER SYSTEM
I worked as an engineering co-op in the Water Distribution Department of Charleston Water System. I gained hands on experience about water systems and helped with documents, permits, and projects. I obtained knowledge on the professional world and water systems through tours and projects. In this co-op I was in the field a lot and enjoyed being out of the office. I liked being actually on the site for the projects the company was working on and it gave me a better understanding of the job of an engineer.
DUKE ENERGY
I worked as a general engineering intern in the Energy Solutions group at Duke Energy. I assisted engineers with documents and spreadsheets and learned about the company and department through tours and projects. This was my first internship and introduced me to the professional world and showed me many different career options in a large company.
